Roundtable – A Social Productivity Model for Business, 23 Nov 2011, 8.30am

Invitation only expert roundtable discussion at the RSA to contribute to a 2020PSH project supported by NHBC on the new role of business in society, exploring some fundamental questions about the relationship between businesses, government, public services and social change at a time of public sector austerity.

What is the role of business in driving shared value and social productivity?

  • What kind of business practices can begin driving shared value and improved social outcomes?
  • How should businesses engage in the new government agenda for local growth?
  • What is the role of business in a ‘big society’ or socially productive locality?
  • What should be the balance between regulation and behaviour change at the business-government interface?

Drawing on the shared value approach of Harvard Business School, the Big Society thinking of the Coalition government, and the shifts in culture, power and finance developed by the Commission on 2020 Public Services, the Hub set out to develop a new model for change: a social productivity framework.

This breakfast roundtable chaired by Ben Lucas, will commence with Dr Henry Kippin and Heidi Hauf introducing the social productivity model, followed by key themes from four main cases studies and finally the initial report findings and draft framework, ahead of the report launch in early 2012.  We are delighted to announce that Allison Ogden-Newton, Chief Executive of Social Enterprise London and Matthew Taylor will respond, sharing their insights into socially productive business.
